Cordell is the conquistador who led the voyage with the Conqueror’s Brigade from Skatim bound for Pohjola with a fleet and combined army of Thelenon and the CSIO army in tow. Fatefully, Kalanen had tricked the White Council into agreeing to sail west across the Sea of Dreams, instead of marching the long road east ostensibly to arrive much more quickly through the uncharted oceans on the western shore of Pohjola. As history would reveal, the continent of Maztica lay in between, a fact which in hindsight Kalanen must certainly have known, for it was later revealed that he had designs upon recapturing the southern kingdom once held by the ancient kings who sired him.

Cordell and his faithful second, Captain Degrande, drove the army through the Payit through Kultaka and to Nexal, pillaging along the way, until their army was smashed by the cataclysm that toppled Zaltec and triggered the second Rainstorm of Red Giants. There they were routed along in the footsteps of the god Quetzalcoatl, a path of fertile oasis that led deep into the southern empire to Tukan, where the capital city was later rebuilt. After turning back the army of giants, and the remaining refugees safely settled in Tukan, Cordell returned with what forces remained to him to the Pezelac where he established his governorship in the New World.

Soris, governor of the Payit, is a sworn enemy of Cordell, having vowed to one day see justice done upon him for the slaughter and looting of the Mazticans at the hands of his men.
