Knav’n Saur

Back Story

Knav’n was born of the kobolds serving beneath Lalali Puye. He revered, above all, the greater of the draconic beings and found that genetically, though he’s of pure kobold blood, he was closer to them than most of his kindred. Had he not died, he may’ve grown wings one day. He watched and learned the ways of Lalali Puye’s servants and the order of things and found that, if done correctly, stealing is no crime. It is only a crime if you are caught, or if the law of the land strictly prohibits the touching of other people’s things.

At first, he was a small-time thief. He’d take quills or things that people would think were just lost or misplaced. But that was not enough for him. So he began to steal more. Like a rival’s weapon the day before a battle. This satisfied him, but… He felt he should be able to take more from someone than physical items. He should be able to steal some part of them–but not in violation of the law. So one day, he came to one of the clan’s less gifted sorcerers in his sleep. When Knav’n touched his hand to the scales of this sorcerer, he could feel a power flowing through him beneath the flesh. It made his spine tingle and his chest rumble, as though awaking some piece of the dragon within him. It wasn’t physical, and certainly not the flow of blood. So he drew his hand away, willing that flow to come away with his hand… And it did. I won’t explain the details of how he accidentally cast the spell, then and there, or how the point of light in front of him woke the sorcerer and he found himself swearing he’d stolen no object belonging to that kobold. Because the point is to tell of his ways of lawful theft.

So when Knav’n died, he figured he would not be able to steal spells ever again–he proved himself wrong–and after some time in his ghostly shape, he founded the ability to ride in people’s bodies as though he were in a dream. And it hit him, the wonder of being able to overthrow somebody’s mind and control them. To steal a subject’s control of their own body would be an amazing feat and surely the most satisfying of them all.
