At the beginning of each combat round, each player must select which Stance their Actor will take. In some case, the stance selected in the prior round, or the action taken will restrict what stances may be selected in the following round. Always consult the description of those stances or actions from the prior round before choosing an action in the current round.

When playing with card props, the Stance card is always placed first and face up, since under normal circumstances all opponents can automatically observe this. See Combat Card Layout for more information.
