Combat Stances

Stances refer to the footing and posture of an Actor at the start and end of a combat round. The first step in a combat round is for the Actors involved to Select Initial Stance. Each combat round is then ended with the step Select Final Stance. In many cases, the final stance will be determined as a result of the Select Actions step. The final stance of the first round of combat then becomes the initial stance in round 2, the final stance of round 2 becomes the initial stance of round 3, etc.

Even if Actors are just moving during combat, running, or standing there, those are still stances that effect how easy or difficult their actions in combat are, as well as that of opposing actors trying to interfere or harm them.

The core rules specify a number of specific stances that may be chosen. These are further broken down into Basic Stances that any Actor can select, and Experienced Stances that represent knowledge or training an Actor has and that must be bought with Build or Experience Points. Rule Extensions introduce additional stances specific to themed campaign settings, such as martial arts, gun fighting, etc.
