-====== Races ======
-Other humanoid races or monsters are Actors in the game system, and although the vast majority are NPC's, some may be PC Actor races at the discretion of the GM and the nature of the campaign setting.

-Races and monsters in the No-Dice RPG system are defined in the same way as Actors, with Stats and Abilities, however, they have Traits that are part and parcel of their physiology or psychology that must be acquired during Actor creation, not during game play, such as having wings, or large size, the ability to see in the dark, etc.  The game system has been designed this way to easily enable races and monsters from any other game system or campaign setting to easily be able to be [[rules:no-dice:conversion-guides:|converted]] to the No-Dice RPG.
-
-Humans have no additional Build Point cost.  Some other races have powerful abilities that cost build points, but also disadvantages that offset their Build Points, so their net cost to create an Actor of their race is zero.  Some races and monsters, however, are clearly more powerful than the average human and have a non-zero Build Point cost that must be paid for an Actor to select that race.  This usually results in the race taking the points that would otherwise be spend on unique abilities when the Actor is first created.  Players may buy Disadvantages as usual to acquire more build points to select a race with a Build Point cost, or at the GM's discretion, may go over budget on their character build to be able to select that race, but in that case must spend all of their XP acquired during play to "pay off" that Build Point debt before acquiring new Abilities or improving their Stats.
-
-Actor races also have maximum Stat values noted in the race's description that must be abided by, reflecting the fact that a pixie can't be physically stronger than an Ogre for example.
-
-Finally, in addition to mandatory Traits, some races have optional Traits that may be purchased with Build Points in the same way as abilities.  These represent things that are common to some but not all members of that race.

-===== Racial Traits =====
-Each article on a particular race will include these common definitions:
-  - __**Name:**__ the name of the race
-  -  __**Description:**__ how members of this race should be imagined during gameplay.  This will include a variety of related topics, like their physical appearance, psychology, culture, history, etc.
-  - __**Stats:**__ the minimum, average, and maximum values of the Actor statistics of this race.  Actors start with the average Stats for their race during character creation.
-  -  __**Mandatory Traits:**__ these are the [[rules:no-dice:actors:abilities:racial:|abilities]] common to all members of this race and must be selected during character creation.
-  -   __**Optional Traits:**__ these special [[rules:no-dice:actors:abilities:racial:|abilities]] present in some, but not all, members of this race and may be selected during character creation.  Additional Build Points must be spent to acquire optional traits.
-  -  __**Build Points:**__ how many Build Points it costs to select this race.  Note that Optional Traits, if selected, have a build point cost in addition to this base cost.
