Actor Statistics
Stats refer to the physical and metal characteristics of Actors. Most Actors use the six common stats below, although some unusual actors may not have all of the stats. For Example, an intelligent sword might would have an Agility stat for example, unless it was capable of animating on its own.
The six basic stats in the game are:
- Strength
- Agility
- Fitness
- Smarts
- Intuition
- Will
- Appearance
Scale: all stats use a scale of 0-10, with the typical human having a 1 on all stats.
Strength
This is the measurement of an Actor's physical strength, i.e. the ability to lift heavy objects, have big muscles, etc. Strength points can be added to any double-blind contest where being strong has an effect on the outcome: melee combat, a Task Check to bash down a door, etc.
Agility
This measures how quick the Actor is, as well as how coordinated. If converting from a D&D rule system, this stat is is analogous to Dexterity. Agility points can be added to any Double-Blind Contest where being coordinated or quick has an effect on the outcome: missile combat, a Task Check to cross a river on a log, etc.
Fitness
This measures how physically fit the Actor is. If converting from a D&D rule system, this stat is is analogous to Constitution, or in other rule systems, Endurance. Fitness points can be added to any Double-Blind Contest where being healthy has an effect on the outcome: a Task Check to force march with an army overnight, or to survive the effects of poison, for example.
Fitness also has the important role in determining how long an Actor can participate in combat without suffering penalties. See the Combat articles for more detail.
Smarts
This is a measure of how intelligent the Actor is. If converting from D&D, this is analogous to the Intelligence characteristic. The only reason it is called Smarts instead, is to avoid confusion with the Intuition stat when abbreviated. Unlike Intuition, Smarts is a measure of the Actor's ability to use reason and logic, and learn quickly. Smarts points can be added to any Double-Blind Contest where being intelligent has an effect on the outcome: casting a spell, remembering a clue, researching in a library, etc.
Intuition
This is a measure of how accurately the Actor guesses things correctly, feels the right answer without knowing why, or avoids acting foolish. If converting from D&D, this is analogous to the Wisdom characteristic. An Actor who isn't particularly smart, but ain't no fool has a high Intuition score. Intuition points can be added to any Double-Blind Contest where being able to feel what's right has an effect on the outcome: casting a spell, trying to sense the mood of an NPC Actor, trying to determine the outcome of an Action in advance, etc.
Will
This is a measure of the Actor's force of personality, determination, willpower, and in the case of random Bad Stuff, their luck. If converting from D&D, this is analogous to the Charisma characteristic, or if from RuneQuest, the POW stat. A hideous Ogre who commands an army probably has a low Appearance and a high Will. Will points can be added to any Double-Blind Contest where the strength of one's spirit has an effect on the outcome: casting a spell, trying to intimidate NPC Actor, trying to resist being possessed by a ghost, etc.
