Damage
Damage in the No-Dice System is divided into Physical and Mental damage.
Physical Damage: Damage Points
Damage Points are applied to the three physical stats: Strength, Agility, Fitness, that collectively equal the Actor's Hit Points as an Outcome of successful combat actions.
Stats Reduced to Zero
Whenever one of the three physical stats are reduced to zero, the Actor is one step closer to unconsciousness, although which stat has been reduced to zero determines the exact effects on the Actor. If all three physical stats have been reduced to zero, the Actor is unconscious. Once an Actor reaches this state, all additional Damage Points sustained, or carried over from whatever injury caused unconsciousness continue to be recorded as negative stat values. If any of the three physical stats reaches double it's maximum value as a negative, the character has sustained a Permanent Injury. If all three physical stats receive a permanent injury, the Actor is dead. For example, consider an actor with 3 Strength, 3 Agility, and 3 Fitness. If they receive 9 total Damage Points, they are Unconscious. If they receive 12 Damage Points, they are Unconscious and have sustained a Permanent Injury. If they receive 15 Damage Points, they are Unconscious and have sustained a Serious Permanent Injury, or two Permanent Injuries, one to two different stats. If they receive 18 Damage Points, they are dead.
Zero Strength
An Actor whose Strength has been reduced to zero cannot take any physical action that involves movement, like swinging a sword, or lifting an object. Their ability to carry equipment is also effected, and if their Encumbrance derived score is lower than their carried weight, they must sit down of fall down under the weight of their gear.
Zero Agility
An Actor whose Agility has been reduced to zero cannot stand. They are too dizzy, shaky or disoriented to take actions that require coordination, like firing a missile weapon or walking, or dodging a physical attack, although they still can move by crawling.
Zero Fitness
An Actor whose Fitness has been reduced to zero is too fatigued to go on and cannot move. They have zero Action Points to spend in Combat, and may take no physical actions that require exertion, like walking, although they may remain standing if they bend over so that they are bracing themselves with their hands upon their knees, leaning against a wall, etc. Like the Strength score that also effects their derived Encumbrance stat, if their carried weight is greater than their allowed Encumbrance, they must sit down of fall down under the weight of their gear.
Mental Damage: Pain Points
In the same way that Actors can experience physical Damage Points, they may also suffer Mental Damage in the form of Pain Points. These represent mental exhaustion, the effect on the mind from psychic damage, negative emotional states, etc. Pain Points are spirit damage applied to the three mental stats: Smarts, Intuition, Will, that collectively equal the Actor's total Spirit Point score, in the same way that Hit Points and Physical Damage operate on the three physical stats. Unlike Damage Points, Pain Points are the result of mental injury, not physical, and are often caused by attacks from spiritual beings like ghosts, a mind-effecting spells, drugs, etc.
Zero Smarts
An Actor whose Smarts has been reduced to zero is an imbecile who is too witless to decide what to do and so continues their last physical action, or does nothing. Such an Actor cannot take any action influenced by Smarts such as casting a spell, or solving a puzzle.
Zero Intuition
An Actor whose Intuition has been reduced to zero is a fool and takes a random action, or no action at all. They have an utter lack of judgement like a blackout drunk and have no insight into the things going on around them. Such an Actor cannot take any action influenced by Intuition such as casting a spell, or attempting to sense the motive of an NPC. A PC in this state may choose to take no action, but if they choose to try and act, they may only select an Action Category, like Combat Actions, and select the actual action performed randomly, by drawing a card from the appropriate Combat Action Deck.
Zero Will
An Actor whose Will has been reduced to zero has lost their drive or determination and feels hopeless. They have zero Mental Action Points to spend on spells or psychic combat, and may take no mental actions like continuing an astral travel, dream walking, studying, or creating art.
